Privacy policy

What we collect

• Server logs. Our host (Netlify) records the IP address, browser user-agent, referrer, and URL of each request. These logs are kept for a short retention window for abuse and uptime monitoring.
• Newsletter signups. If you submit the newsletter form, we collect the email address you provided and the page you submitted from. We use this only to send the newsletter and never sell, rent, or share it.
• Affiliate click identifiers. When you click an affiliate link, the destination retailer (e.g., Amazon) may set its own cookies on its domain. We do not control those cookies. See the retailer's privacy policy.

What we don't collect

• We do not run third-party advertising trackers, ad pixels, or "fingerprinting" scripts.
• We do not use cross-site cookies on basisscience.com.
• We do not require an account to read anything on the site.

Analytics

We run privacy-conscious analytics to measure aggregate traffic (page views, source, country at the country level only). The analytics provider does not set cross-site tracking cookies and does not record IP addresses in a way that can be linked back to an individual visitor.

Newsletter and email

If you subscribe to the Wearable Health Brief, your email address is stored with our email service provider (Netlify Forms, with future migration to a dedicated email tool noted in our changelog). Every newsletter contains a one-click unsubscribe link. We honor unsubscribe requests immediately.

Cookies

We set no advertising or tracking cookies. The site uses a small first-party cookie only if you submit a form, and only to prevent the form from being resubmitted accidentally.

Your rights

If you are in the EU/UK (GDPR), California (CCPA/CPRA), or another jurisdiction with data-protection laws: you can request a copy of the data we hold about you, correction of inaccurate data, or deletion. Email privacy@basisscience.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Children

BasisScience.com is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy materially, we'll update the "last updated" date and note the change in a public changelog. The previous version will remain reachable through the archive at archive.org.
