Editorial policy

Last updated: 2026-05-11.

Independence

BasisScience.com is independent. We are not owned by, funded by, or contractually obligated to any wearable manufacturer, retailer, network, holding company, or PR firm. No outside party reviews our coverage before publication. We accept no payment for editorial coverage; affiliate commission is paid on sales after the fact and has no input into ranking decisions.

What we publish

Sourcing standards

Medical claims

We do not make medical claims. We do not say a wearable can diagnose, treat, prevent, or detect a medical condition unless that claim is supported by an FDA clearance and we cite the clearance number. We are not a substitute for a clinician, and our articles include a "not medical advice" disclaimer on any page where readers might mistake them for one.

Conflicts of interest

If a writer holds equity in, or receives consulting income from, a company in the wearable space, they cannot write about that company on BasisScience. We disclose any review unit, press trip (we don't take press trips), or relationship that could plausibly affect coverage. The default disclosure language: "Review unit provided by [manufacturer]; this had no influence on our rating."

Updates and changelog

Every buying guide carries a visible "last updated" date in the byline. Substantive changes after publication are listed in a "What changed in this update" block on the page. Minor edits (typos, broken-link fixes) are not logged. Significant retractions or factual corrections are handled through the corrections policy.

AI use

We use AI for narrow tasks: research summarization, schema generation, fact-checking against primary sources. We do not publish AI-generated prose as our own editorial voice, and every article is reviewed and edited by a human before publication. Our content is opted out of large-language-model training where the option exists, via robots.txt and per-provider opt-outs.

Right of reply

If a manufacturer disagrees with something we've written, we will publish a response inline (where it's a factual dispute) and update the piece if we got something wrong. We do not pre-clear coverage with manufacturers.
