Corrections policy
Last updated: 2026-05-11.
We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we fix them in public.
How to report an error
Email corrections@basisscience.com with:
- The URL of the page.
- What you believe is wrong.
- A source (link, screenshot, citation) that supports your version of the facts.
We aim to respond within five business days. Genuine factual errors get a fast fix; opinion disagreements get a polite reply.
What we do when we get it wrong
Three tiers, depending on the severity of the error.
Minor (typo, broken link, outdated price)
We fix it in place and update the "last updated" date in the byline. We do not add a separate correction note for cosmetic edits.
Factual error
We fix the body text and add a "Correction" line near the affected section, dated and explaining what was wrong. The change is also noted in the article's changelog block. We do not silently rewrite history.
Material error or retraction
If a piece is wrong in a way that affects the conclusion, we add a "Correction" banner at the top of the page, explain what changed, and update the changelog. In the rare case of a full retraction we leave the URL live with a clear retraction notice rather than 404ing the page, so anyone who linked to it can see the update.
What we don't do
- Quiet edits that change a conclusion without a note.
- Removing critical text from a product review at a manufacturer's request.
- Adjusting affiliate rankings to favor an advertiser.
